Family Learning
We started some family Learning classes two years ago. We are looking for a small number of families to take part again this year. The idea is the child and their parent study and learn new things together.
The details of the BTEC ICT course are below.
The Numeracy Support Course has a link on the left please click it for more details.
BTEC ICT
2010-11
This is the same course studied by the students at school leading to a Certificate (2 GCSE Equavalent grade A-C). We are hoping to enrol 6 families this year. With the support from the tutor and each other we can complete this course in one year rather than 2. Southdowns and other colleges offer this course to their year 12 and 13 students.
The course will take place on a Wednesday from 6.00 to 8.30.
There are two costs to the course: a tuition fee of £100.00 (about £1.00 per hour) and an "exam fee" of £75.00.
All members of the course will need to study 3 full units. There is one compulsory unit "documents - their construction and purpose" and the other two units can be chosen from 6 others.
The students who attended last year, either:
Could not get ICT into their options or
Deliberately chose this as an option or
Wanted to upgrade to Diploma or
Wanted more choice in year 10 so took this ICT course in year 9
The course is assessed by the tutor and there is no formal exam.
Dates September 21nd to June 22nd 2011
If you would like to join this group please use the contact us link on the left.
Last year some of the students chose to upgrade from a certificate to a diploma (4 GCSEs) and will complete those this year in their ICT lessons in school. Everyone else passed, most getting Merit or Distinction. The evaluation forms we gave out indicated that the course members thought the experience was "excellent".
We are limited to 6 families so we can offer genuine help and support.
